With Miami carnival only a few weeks away, I thought it would be a great idea to post a wire bra look. This bra was a collaboration effort between myself and my sister Crystal of Evolve By Crys for Trinidad carnival 2016.  When trying to figure out what exactly I wanted (which took a very very very long time), I knew that I didn’t want to wear a blinged out carnival bra or something too “costumey”. The end result was two trips to JoAnn’s fabric store where I found this beautiful rainbow batik fabric. Crystal built and shaped a crescent styled wire bra and I got to DIY-ing with my hot glue gun, stones and my sewing kit.

Sidebar: Check out my blogger friend Sha over at tingznice.com where she breaks down what you need for a good carnival DIY:

When you do wear a wire bra; whether at a fete or for carnival, here are some things you should ABSOLUTELY be aware of:

Get your size. There are a lot of wire bra designers/costume designers that can give you a custom fit versus a “standard” sized bra. Custom fitted bras ensure “less slippage”, more support because that bra is catered to your body. Check out Evolve By Crys or Shi’dor for materials, orders and/or sizing questions.

Good coverage… can depend on what style of bra you want but not everyone likes nip-slips. In this case, pasties are your friend; I usually get mine from Walmart for about $4-6.00 or a lot of party/costume/clothing or lingerie stores will have various styles, colors if you want more options. Some examples are:

Target

NastyGal

Amazon

All it takes is a Google search….

Make sure you can move in it. This is important–most people wear wire bras for carnival or to a fete but you need to make sure that it’s functional and fashionable. I always tend to jump around in mine to make sure I stay all in there before actually wearing it. Also, check for rubbing, chaffing or sticking of excess wire. You can pad it or have it adjusted so that you’re completely comfortable on the road.  For this one, I found shoulder padding or padding from a bra I wasn’t using to add to the cups –there’s also a thicker type of felt material you can use for padding as well.

So are you wearing a wire bra this carnival season? To fete? Or just on the road? Would love to know what you think of this wire bra design in the comments below. Anyone headed to Miami carnival; check out my fete list here:

Until next time,

Omg love! Thank you so much for the plug! I concur with everything you said. Definitely can’t rock a blinged out wire bra anywhere. The perfect fabric says it all!

Love that you’ve titled this “Fet-a-quete”. I was considering making Carnival-related How To posts, but I don’t think too many of my readers are Caribbean! Maybe I’ll return to the idea next year, but this is definitely up your lane! This post was so well-written & informative! Nailed it!
