I used to write a lot, especially to vent and get my emotions on paper. I found that writing was always the best form of self-expression or when I needed to use my “VOICE”. With so many things happening all over the U.S. and world, it can be overwhelming and sometimes I just want to release. This is one of my favorite outlets; I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing.
Black on white sands
I stand
My hue doesn’t hurt nature’s elements
But it skews your POV
My melanin doesn’t determine my worth or intelligence or what the surf brings in
But yet it’s looked on with doubt, wonder often disdain like empty vapid bottles washed up on white sandy beaches
My tone darkens and colors in the sunlight but yet you still squint at my radiance
It colors your perception of me…black
On white sands, in clear surf
Each splash, a reminder of constant efforts to survive
Never ending ripples of strength and change
Never ending resiliency, strength through fear and injustice
Black hands and black feet poring through the grainy wet sands
Black on white sands
We continue to stand
